*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE* JULY 18, 2017
Brooklyn, NY: The Young Progressives of America, a political and activist organization of students based at Long Island University Brooklyn, has launched its official website, located at www.ypamerica.org. The aim of the website is to coalesce a variety of the organization’s activities into a single community location, while providing the means for youth – and democratically inclined citizens of all ages – to engage directly in America’s growing progressive movement through donation and supporter channels.
Platform demonstrates new generation of progressive leadership and builds intersectionality
“The time is right to organize our many activities into a single platform, while in turn providing a springboard back out to social media pages and, importantly, YPA partners who are helping to propel the progressive movement forward,” according to Carlos Jesus, YPA President and founder. “We as a nation are on the cusp of achieving critical mass in reclaiming the political leadership that has failed us – holding our leaders to account for the ideals on which America was founded: respect for human rights, and a collective self-determination in steering a course toward social, cultural and environmental justice.”
“YPA represents a new generation of progressive leadership organized to influence the political discourse and collectively drive that redemption. This website provides a platform for getting our message out.”
Visitors will be able to get news, watch videos, share pictures and read press releases that capture, and track, YPA’s growth and influence since the organization was formed at LIU Brooklyn University in 2016. Website features include a section profiling leaders in the progressive movement, both current and historical, and a calendar that syncs to YPA’s event postings on Facebook (“Young Progressives of America”). There will also be a section that cross-pollinates with YPA’s Instagram feed, among other social media platforms.
“This is a real step forward for us,” states Carlos Jesus. “It demonstrates the legitimacy of YPA and that we are serious about building a long-term, far-reaching movement that wraps in youth from around the country.” The group is currently developing active chapters at East Coast universities, with the goal of expanding nationwide, added Carlos Jesus.
